The IMRG is a multi-stage gasification process followed by a multi-stage gas treatment and conditioning process. The resulting gas is a clean synthesis gas (syngas) with high energy efficiency.

The advantages of the IMRG Technology compared to other technologies lies in the high availability and flexibility of the raw materials, and the treatment of all waste types without further pre-treatment.
Gasification is the process of converting carbonaceous materials such as coal, petroleum, biomass and waste into combustible gases (carbon monoxide and hydrogen) that ideally contain all the energy originally present in the feedstock. In practice energy conversion efficiencies lie between 70% and 90%.

Gasification is achieved by thermally degrading organic materials in the absence of adequate air to support full combustion. Gasification of organic materials is not a new subject. It was widely employed during the Second World War with approximately one million gasifiers used to operate cars, trucks, boats, trains and electricity generators in Europe.

The possibility of using gasification for organic waste disposal is an application that has arisen as a result of both public pressures for environmental improvement coupled with the wish to derive commercial benefit from the energy content of such wastes.
