About IMRG-Technology

Bellwether Recuperative Gasification provides the best environmental and economic option of waste treatment for renewable energy production.

​Our technology combines the best of all other thermal treatment technologies:

  • A wide range of waste can be treated and used as feedstock in one compact plant, with efficient energy recovery. Less space required than for conventional systems.

The IMRG-Process

 

From waste to a clean fuel in 5-steps

Waste as Feedstock

The IMRG process can use all caloric resources from all input materials:

​

  • Biomass and agricultural residuals

  • Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)

  • Industrial waste (e.g. car tires)

  • Hazardous waste

  • Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)

Gasification

The feedstock is dried in the gasification unit integrated dryer. The steam is condensed, purified and used as process water.

​

The gasification process takes place at high temperatures with a maximum of efficiency. At temperatures about 1.300°C all harmful substances are either destroyed or immobilized in a vitrified slag.

​

The vitrified slag is inert. No harmful substances can be washed out. The slag can be used as construction material.

​​

All organic materials are gasified and converted into a Syngas. The Syngas include almost the whole energy content of the feedstock and is passed to the gas cleaning system. Metals can be recycled.

​

Plasma Treatment

The IMRG plasma treatment is a high efficiency, high temperature and state of the art treatment method.

All incineration or gasification processes have in common that they produce unwanted by-products, which are present in the syngas. These substances are tars, toxic radicals, NOx and dioxins.

​

The IMRG plasma treatment destroys all these harmful substances by the high temperature plasma (> 3000°C) and cracking into simple molecules. 

​

  • Tars are decomposed and being used for the syngas.

  • Toxic radicals are destroyed

  • no NOx production

  • no dioxins

​

Only simple molecules are left in the gas.

Heat Recovery

To provide a maximum efficiency we us a high efficient heat recovery system.

​

  • Cold gas efficiency: 85% - 90%​

​

  • Electrical efficiency: 35% - 40%

  • Combined Heat & Power (CHP): 80% - 85%

​

The recovered head is used to support the drying and gasification process.

​

Gas Cleaning System

Our high efficient gas cleaning system consist 3-stages. The IMRG plasma treatment and a compact and high efficient 2-in-1 gas scrubbing system.

After the gas cleaning system, the Syngas is ready to use.

The gas volume of the IMRG-process corresponds to approx. 25% - 30% of the gas volume with incineration. Therefore the emission quantity and cost of the gas cleaning are subsequently lower.

The clean Syngas

The generated Syngas is rich on hydrogen and carbon monoxide and has a heat value of 5MJ/Nm³.

It can be used in many different processes:

​

  • It replace all fossil fuels in thermal applications.

  • It can be used to generate electrical energy and district heat in a gas engine.

  • As process gas for industrial use.

  • Synthesis gas for the petrochemical industry.

  • For hydrogen production.

  • To generate a liquid fuel,

  • or even in a fuel cell to generate electrical energy with very high efficiency.

Even better: The IMRG-Technology can help to reduce the CO2-emissions from energy generation and therefore it helps to improve the carbon-footprint.
